Plans to scrap new emirates will fail — Ganduje
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The outgoing Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has prayed that the incoming administration of the New Nigeria People’s Party will fail in its plan to scrap the four new Kano emirates created by his (Ganduje’s) administration.

Ganduje, who spoke on Monday at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano during the commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day, was reacting to a viral video last week, in which the leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was captured saying the governor-elect, Abba Yusuf, would review the dethronement and balkanisation of the Kano Emirate.

Recall that Ganduje, in 2019, signed a law spliting the Kano Emirate into five through the creation of four new ones.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11, was also dethroned by Ganduje’s administration.

In last week’s viral video, Kwankwaso was captured saying, “We tried not to intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any Emir, but now, an opportunity has come. Those who were given this opportunity will sit down and see to the issues. They will look at what they are expected to do.

“Besides the Emir, even the emirate has been divided into five places. All these need to be studied. Usually, a leader inherits good, bad, and issues that are hard to reconcile.”

But speaking on Monday, Ganduje said, “God will not allow whosoever is planning to scrap the new emirates to succeed. The creation of the four emirates was to ensure the even spread of positive development, as well as the spread of economic growth within all sectors of the state’s development trend.

“God will not allow them to succeed in their plan against the four emirates, though we will be out of government, we will continue to pray for the survival of these emirates. I want to tell you that these emirates were established to foster development and peaceful coexistence in the state and as such the emirates have come to stay.”

Ganduje commended the workers for their cooperation and understanding throughout his tenure, as well as  thanked God for giving him the initiative to ensure that workers’ welfare and well-being were adequately sustained and protected during his administration.
