OPC Flags Concerns: Religion Dispute Fuels Capital Move Debate & Festival Plea
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has suggested relocating the capital of Kwara State, Ilorin, if religious tensions persist. The call comes as some Muslims in Ilorin allegedly deny traditional religious worshippers the right to practice their faith.

The Kwara State Coordinator of the OPC New Era, Bayo Fabiyi, proposed this move while emphasizing that other places in Nigeria have successfully managed religious diversity without conflict.

Fabiyi urged patience and tolerance from traditionalists in the face of such challenges, advising against retaliation.

Meanwhile, traditional worshippers in Ekiti State are urging their government to declare August 20 a national public holiday for the Isese festival. They commended other South-West states for recognizing the festival and granting it a holiday.

The traditionalists hope Governor Biodun Oyebanji will follow suit, enabling them to celebrate their annual event without hindrance.
