Adeyemi Adeniji, the Chief Executive Officer of Starlink Global and Ideal Limited, has urged young people to embrace farming. He expressed concern that farming is predominantly pursued by the elderly, emphasizing the need for a shift in this trend.
Adeniji made these remarks during the commissioning of the company’s cocoa warehouse complex in Ikom, Cross River State. He highlighted the significance of involving younger generations in agriculture, pointing out that in countries like the United States, farmers are among the wealthiest.
Addressing the gathering, Adeniji stated, “We need to create private companies that are intentional about developing this particular space. When you think about the industrial revolution, you require raw materials. But where will these raw materials come from? Especially when the average age of farmers is now 40 years and above.”
He emphasized the necessity of instilling hope in younger individuals that they can succeed in agriculture. To encourage youth participation, Adeniji introduced the company’s 2,000 metric tons warehouse project, which will store agricultural products from the central part of the state for export purposes.
Additionally, he disclosed the company’s investment in cocoa plantations, with plans for expansion in Osun and Edo States. Adeniji’s vision is to bolster the nation’s economy and promote locally produced goods.
He added, “That’s why we acquired the largest cocoa-producing factory in Lagos. We have also initiated partnerships with Ogun state and AfrExImbank to establish the largest cashew processing factory.”
