Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s dedication to constructing the Fourth Mainland Bridge during the swearing-in ceremony of his second-term cabinet members at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the focus would be on building Phase 1 of the bridge, which is set to link Ikorodu, Epe, and Ibeju-Lekki axes of Lagos State. This infrastructure project aims to open up the eastern corridor of Lagos, fostering economic growth and development for the residents and workers in that region.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is an ambitious 38km-long project by the Lagos State Government, connecting Lagos Island through Langbasa (Lekki) and Baiyeku (Ikorodu) across the Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga in Ikorodu. This bridge is designed as a 2 x 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road, with provisions for a Bus Rapid Transit Lane and future road expansion, and it is expected to become the second-longest bridge in Africa.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed his delight in the commencement of passenger operations for Phase 1 of the Lagos Blue Line rail. Additionally, he announced plans to extend the Blue Line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, expanding the coverage of this service to benefit millions more people in Lagos. Once fully operational, the extended Blue Line and the Red Line will collectively serve over one and a half million commuters on a daily basis.

The governor’s commitment to these infrastructure projects reflects his administration’s dedication to improving transportation and enhancing economic opportunities for the people of Lagos State.
