The European Union and the Netherlands government express commitment to supporting Nigeria in creating jobs for its youth, aiming to tackle poverty, unemployment, and irregular migration.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betty Edu, secured these commitments during a meeting in The Hague.
The meeting included key figures from the European Union, such as Erica Gerrestsen, the Commission’s Director General for International Development.
The Netherlands government representatives present were the Minister for Justice, the Minister of Security, Netherlands Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Paul Huijts, Netherlands Special Envoy for Migration Peter Schuurman, and Head of Section, Sahel, West Africa, and Great Lakes, Tijmen Rooseboom, among others.
The Nigerian government delegation featured the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Netherlands, Dr Eniola Ajayi, Federal High Commissioner on Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Tijani Ahmed, and the representative of the Minister of Interior, among others.
This collaborative effort aims to address the challenges faced by Nigeria’s youthful population through strategic job creation initiatives.
