The Nigeria Police Council has officially confirmed Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

This announcement came following a council meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, chaired by President Bola Tinubu. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State disclosed the confirmation during a press briefing.

Governor Bala Mohammed also revealed that President Tinubu, who chaired the police council meeting, played a significant role in addressing the unfolding political and security situation in Rivers State.

This involved intervening in the planned impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Notably, President Tinubu had appointed Kayode Egbetokun as the new IGP on June 19, 2023. Egbetokun assumed the role, replacing Usman Baba, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.

Born on September 4, 1964, from the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Egbetokun entered the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990.

As per police rules, he is expected to mark 35 years in service by September 2024.

This development underscores the significant changes in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and the ongoing efforts to address political and security challenges in different regions of the country.
