Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, emphasized the significance of traditional institutions in the country’s socioeconomic development during a lecture at the 70th birthday celebration and 17th Coronation Anniversary of Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo in Ondo State.
Governor Makinde stressed the need to integrate Obas into state development efforts, citing their role in security, peaceful trade relations, and development.
He advocated for the integration of traditional systems into the state structure, highlighting the success of Amotekun’s community policing approach.
The governor, later installed as the Jagunmolu of Ondo Kingdom at the Osemawe palace, discussed the role of Obas in solid mineral development and unveiled an executive order protecting mining communities.
He explained how community leaders are crucial in identifying solid mineral locations.
The executive order, titled Executive Order No. 1 of 2023, aims to demonstrate the possibilities of state and community partnerships in developing the solid minerals sector.
In response, the Osemawe commended Governor Makinde for his insightful lecture, stating that his recommendations were apt and well-accepted.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the governor’s wife, Engr (Mrs) Tamunominini Makinde, former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engr Hamid Gbadamosi, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsura Sunmonu, and other key government functionaries.
