The University of Ilorin has implemented a noteworthy change in its policies, announcing the introduction of paternity leave for male staff members.

This update was disclosed by the university’s Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, during a press briefing on Monday.

The modification is part of the recently amended Conditions of Service at the university, strategically designed to enhance the overall working conditions for its personnel.

Alfanla emphasized that the decision to offer paternity leave is aligned with the institution’s commitment to continually improve the welfare of its staff.

Under the new policy, male officers are now entitled to a 14-working-day paternity leave when their spouses give birth.

Additionally, in a progressive move, if the family of a male officer adopts a child under four months old, the officer will similarly enjoy a 14-working-day paternity leave.

This development represents a positive step toward recognizing and accommodating the needs of male staff members during significant life events, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive work environment at the University of Ilorin.
