The Agboin Alayoayo Royal Family of Alayoayo Compound, Oke-Aafin, Lagbondoko area of the ancient city of Oyo has rejected the consideration of Mr Ademola Adegoke as prospective candidate for the vacant stool of ALAAFIN of Oyo, because, according to the family members he’s never been part of them.
This was conveyed through a letter to High Chief Mukaila Afonja, the Baba Iyaji of Oyo and copied to all kingmakers, as well as relevant government agencies, and which was also made available to our reporter, and signed by those who described themselves as “principal members of Agboin Alayoayo Royal Family of Agunloye Section …” debunking Mr Ademola Adegoke’s claim to be a member of the family.
They therefore declared:”We, the undersigned principal members of Agboin Alayoayo Royal Family of Agunloye section, Oyo, hereby issue this formal statement to denounce and reject Mr. Ademola Adegoke, who has been falsely claiming membership in our family and seeking the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo.
Regrettably, following his false claim as member of our family, Mr.Ademola Adegoke was erroneously screened by the king makers, contrary to the established traditions, customs, and heritage. This unfortunate development necessitates our prompt and unequivocal rejection, as his name was never part of the names submitted for consideration by our family.
The Agboin Alayoayo Royal Family has always upheld the sacred values of integrity, wisdom, and leadership excellence, essential qualities for occupying the revered stool of Alaafin. Mr. Ademola Adegoke, not being a member of our family, cannot be said to possess such qualities for which our family is renowned”.
They thereafter urged the King-Makers to: Reconsider their decision by adhering strictly to “the family’s customs” and “ensure the selection process aligns with principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability”. They pleaded further at their family’s decision be accorded deserved respect and recognition “in this matter”, while appreciating the kingmakers’ “understanding and cooperation”, the statement concluded.
