Oyo State Governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, has provided insight into the transformation of Trans Amusement Park into a housing estate.

The governor explained that the decision arose due to the park’s outdated equipment and the need to avoid traffic congestion. He revealed plans for a modern amusement park in the Ilutuntun Business District through a public-private partnership.

Omituntun 2.0, the state’s tourism plans, remains on course, but the governor acknowledged that its execution may not align with certain expectations. He emphasized the commitment to sustainable development through tourism.

Regarding the SAfER program, Governor Makinde stressed the importance of due diligence before fund disbursement to smallholder farmers, youth agropreneurs, and small businesses.

The governor’s newsletter, titled “Revisiting Tourism in Oyo State,” sheds light on the rationale behind the conversion of Trans Amusement Park into a housing estate. The governor cited the park’s outdated equipment, the costliness of repairs, and the potential traffic bottlenecks as factors influencing the decision.

He also mentioned plans to construct a new, modern amusement park in the Ilutuntun Business District through a public-private partnership, demonstrating the government’s commitment to tourism development.

In addressing the SAfER program, Governor Makinde acknowledged the need for meticulous due diligence before disbursing funds. He highlighted the involvement of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) and commercial or microfinance banks in facilitating the program and assured eligible individuals of the opportunity to register for relevant SAfER packages once internal processes are completed.
