Diezani Alison-Madueke Faces Bribery Charges in London
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, is currently facing bribery charges at London’s Westminster Magistrate’s Court. The charges stem from a thorough investigation conducted by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which leads the country’s efforts to combat serious and organised crimes.

Diezani, 63, held a prominent role in President Goodluck Jonathan’s government from 2010 to 2015 and also served as the president of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The NCA alleges that during her tenure as the Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani accepted bribes in exchange for awarding multi-million-pound oil and gas contracts.

The charges specify a range of perks that Diezani is said to have benefitted from during her time in office. These perks include cash, chauffeur-driven cars, private jet flights, luxury holidays, and the use of multiple London properties. The rewards extended beyond material luxuries and encompassed financial benefits, such as furniture, renovation work, payment of private school fees, and gifts from high-end designer shops.

Diezani Alison-Madueke, once a figure of influence in the Nigerian government and international oil sector, now faces legal proceedings over the alleged corrupt practices outlined by the NCA.
