The first Executive Order establishes the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, providing a legal foundation for the state’s efforts in these sectors. Governor Makinde explained that the move is integral to the state’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development, 2023-2027.

The decision to carve out the Ministry of Culture and Tourism from the existing Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism reflects a strategic focus on the importance of these sectors for the state’s development.

Simultaneously, the second Executive Order addresses the protection of mining communities in Oyo State against insecurity and exploitation.

While mining activities fall under the exclusive legislative list, Governor Makinde emphasized the need for state-level intervention in ensuring the safety of communities, environmental sustainability, and handling associated security challenges.

During the signing ceremony, Governor Makinde was joined by key officials, including the Deputy Governor, Barr Bayo Lawal, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Chief of Staff to the governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Barr Biodun Aikomo, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, and the Director-General of Oyo State Mineral Development Agency, Mr Abiodun Oni. The move underscores Oyo State’s proactive approach to economic development and community well-being.
