The Oluwo Aseyin and Araba of Iseyinland, High Chief Fashola Adeyemi, have called on President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to appoint adherents of the traditional Isese religion to public offices.
This appeal was made during the commencement of the 2023 Ifa Asorodayo Festival held in the Iseyin Local Government Area of the state.
Adeyemi emphasized the necessity of breaking away from religious biases in the present administrations.
He suggested that the inclusion of Isese adherents in cabinets and public offices could be a crucial step towards reducing corruption.
According to him, Nigerian leaders have consistently exhibited religious sentiments, favoring Muslims and Christians over Isese adherents.
The high chief proposed an unconventional approach to swearing in public office holders by suggesting the use of Ogun (god of iron) objects.
He believed that appointing Isese people into offices and swearing them in with Ogun could lead to more diligent service and a reduction in corruption.
Adeyemi asserted that this unconventional oath would hold individuals accountable, as lying against Ogun would not go unpunished.
He argued that Nigeria’s current socio-economic crisis is a result of leaders prioritizing religious sentiments, which has allowed corruption and other vices to thrive.
Adeyemi concluded that breaking away from these biases and adopting alternative measures, such as the use of Ogun for oaths, could contribute to raising ethical standards in the country.
