NCC: Globacom Customers to Face Calling Restrictions on MTN Lines Over Unsettled Charges
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that customers of Globacom will face restrictions in calling MTN lines due to unresolved interconnect charges.

This decision, revealed in a statement by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka on Monday, stems from Globacom’s failure to settle interconnect fees.

According to Muoka, Globacom was notified of MTN’s application and provided an opportunity to present its case. After examining the application and the circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, the commission determined that Globacom lacked sufficient or justifiable reasons for non-payment of the interconnect charges.

Once the notice period expires, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN numbers, although they will still be able to receive calls. The partial disconnection will, however, permit in-bound calls to the Globacom network.

This development echoes a similar situation from five years ago when MTN disconnected Glo customers in response to a directive from the NCC due to a N4bn debt.

The current action underscores the importance of settling interconnect charges in maintaining smooth communication services between telecom operators.
