Comply with national action plan on flooding – Group
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The President, Club Twelve 88, Abuja, Rear Admiral Gbadejo Adedeji (retd.), has called on state governments to adhere to the National Action Plan of the Federal Government as regards the management of floods.

He said adherence to the flood management plan would help mitigate the impact of floods, as recently witnessed across the country.

Adedeji, who spoke in Abuja at the investiture and inauguration of new executives of the club in Federal Capital Territory, stated that the national plan must look into what should be done to avert the possibility of severe floods in future.

“Serious nations work assiduously on town planning, they look at the height of water relative to sea level and predict accurately for the future,”  the ex-naval officer stated.

He added, “Those who designed Victoria Island in Lagos should ensure that we build our streets at 90 degree from the Atlantic to the creek, so that if water comes through the ocean it can flow through the stream and enter through another water lane.

“There should be a national plan to look into what we should do so as not to be affected by the possibility of flooding. Look at the River Niger plane, our great grandparents did not farm on them, they didn’t live on the flood pace, they went up to live.”
