ASUU Calls for Promotion Arrears Release Amid IPPIS Employment Concerns
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to the Federal Government, through the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, to promptly release long-awaited promotion arrears owed to its members. The request aims to maintain peace and harmony within Nigerian universities.

In a statement issued on Thursday, ASUU expressed deep concerns about reports of employment irregularities linked to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The union noted that the ongoing IPPIS enrollment for academics has resulted in distortions, causing significant delays in owed promotion arrears. Despite efforts by the union and university administrations, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation has not yet addressed this pressing issue.

ASUU urged the OAGF to urgently disburse the accumulated promotion arrears, with the intention of fostering industrial peace and harmony among its members.

Furthermore, the union highlighted the distressing prevalence of employment misconduct facilitated by individuals associated with the discredited IPPIS. ASUU criticized this trend for undermining established university employment norms and violating legal provisions, including the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2003 and university-specific appointment and promotion guidelines.

The union firmly rejected any unauthorized appointments endorsed by the IPPIS and its representatives in Nigerian public universities.
