The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued an order for the restriction of vehicular movement during the governorship elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, announced that the restriction will be in effect from 12:01 am to 6 pm on the day of the elections in these three states.

However, Adejobi clarified that individuals engaged in essential services are exempted from the vehicular movement restriction on election day.

“The IGP has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 12:01 am to 6 pm on election day in the affected states,” he stated.

“The exception applies to essential services such as INEC officials, accredited electoral observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, and the media.”

This order is part of the IGP’s efforts to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the conduct of the election, emphasizing public order management and the safety of the electorate.
