The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, is scheduled to swear in 58 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on November 27, 2023, at the Supreme Court. This event is part of the activities for the 2023/2024 legal year.

The CJN will also deliver a state-of-the-Judiciary address, reflecting on the Apex Court and the overall performance of the Nigerian Judiciary in the 2022/2023 legal year.

The ceremony will feature speeches from key stakeholders in the justice sector, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, BOSAN Chairman, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Out of 114 applicants, 58 candidates were successfully awarded the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The selection process involved rigorous screening and filtration exercises, including appearances in superior courts, recommendations by Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of superior courts, academic pre-qualification, independent appeals hearing, and chamber inspections.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) considered factors such as eligibility, integrity, and public feedback from the Nigerian Bar Association, Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and the general public.

Of the 58 successful candidates, 57 are advocates, while one is an academic.

This recognition marks a significant achievement in their legal careers and contributes to the legal landscape in Nigeria.
