In a recent meeting at the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) Headquarters, Chairman Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, assured the Nigerian Women Trust Fund of unwavering support for their voter education campaign leading up to the April 27th, 2024 Local Government Councils Election in the state.

He welcomed the initiative by the Nigerian Women Trust Fund and pledged the commission’s assistance to achieve their objectives.

The Program Officer of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Oluwatoyin Omoyemi, advocated for increased female representation in governance.

She introduced the “Training of Trainers” project, aiming to raise awareness among women in Oyo state, encouraging early preparations for the elections. Omoyemi expressed gratitude for OYSIEC’s prompt willingness to collaborate despite the short notice.

The project involves selecting twenty women from each local government for training on voter education, creating a cascading effect as beneficiaries pass on their knowledge within their communities.

The initiative, set to commence in January 2024, focuses on enhancing women’s understanding of their voting rights.

Omoyemi underscored the partnership with political parties and outlined the project’s criteria, emphasizing reading ability and communication skills.

The overarching goal is to empower more women for decision-making roles, fostering greater female participation in the political landscape.
