The Community Court of Justice of ECOWAS, sitting in Abuja, issued a unanimous judgment on Tuesday, compelling the Republic of Benin to pay Yoruba activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, 20 million CFA. This ruling stems from the unlawful detention and violation of Igboho’s fundamental human rights.
The justices presiding over the case, including Gberi-Bé Ouattara, Sengu M. Koroma, and Ricardo Claúdio Monteiro GONÇALVES, ordered Benin to comply with the directive to pay Igboho the specified amount within three months. Additionally, the court expects the Francophone country to provide evidence of payment as confirmation.
The legal representatives involved in the case include Tosing Ojaomo, Aderemilekun Omojola Esq., and Dr. Janet Fashakin Esq., representing Chief Sunday Adeyemo. Irene Aclombessi served as legal counsel for the Republic of Benin.
