A group of Nigerian youths, operating under the banner of Eternal Youth Fellowship, Hotonu, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address the growing exodus of young professionals abroad, commonly known as ‘japa.’

In a statement by President Olumide Ajayi on Sunday, the group expressed concern over the current situation, emphasizing the need for urgent overhauling of critical sectors in the country.

The statement outlined key issues affecting the youth, urging the administration to focus on creating more job opportunities, reversing tuition fee hikes in certain learning institutions, and formulating policies to counter the ‘japa syndrome’ among the youthful population.

The group called for immediate attention to these pressing concerns to address challenges faced by the nation.

Highlighting upcoming programs for the fellowship’s 20th anniversary in 2024, Ajayi explained the sustained progress of the group over the years.

Despite experiencing success, failures, highs, lows, celebrations, and crises, the fellowship’s members never gave up.

Ajayi emphasized the vision for the next decade, aiming to see every young person worldwide have the opportunity to make informed decisions and become followers of Jesus Christ, actively participating in local churches.

The statement added that the fellowship envisions teens and youths achieving personal development goals, enhancing communication skills, participating in governance, gaining work experience, acquiring new skills, learning responsibility and accountability, developing a greater sense of confidence, and becoming empowered.

The fellowship expressed gratitude for the collective effort that contributed to its successful journey.
