In their AFCON opener on Sunday, the Super Eagles faced a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in Ivory Coast. Despite key injuries, Nigeria, led by Victor Osimhen, displayed confidence.

Stanley Nwabali, chosen over Francis Uzoho, guarded the goal. Iban Salvador stunned Nigeria with a 37th-minute goal, but Osimhen quickly equalized after a cross from Alex Iwobi.

Despite persistent pressure, Equatorial Guinea held their ground, securing a crucial draw against the 2013 champions. Alhassan Yusuf’s bright debut was marred by an injury, prompting substitutions to bolster the Nigerian attack.

Osimhen missed a golden opportunity in the 76th minute, resulting in a level scoreline. The Elephants’ resolute defense and goalkeeper Owono’s heroics denied the Super Eagles a chance to take the lead.

The match showcased both teams’ determination and defensive prowess, leaving fans eager for the Super Eagles’ upcoming performances in the tournament.
