The Federal Government stresses the inevitability of banning certain plastic materials, urging Nigerians to embrace comprehensive waste management.

Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Salako, applauds Lagos State’s ban on Styrofoam and single-use plastics, signaling the need for a nationwide solution.

A recently inaugurated interagency committee will engage in consultations for a sustainable approach.

The ministry is exploring policies to promote plastic alternatives. Salako underscores the urgency to address the unregulated plastic use, preparing citizens for forthcoming bans.

Nigerians are encouraged to adopt environmentally conscious practices, with awareness campaigns planned for waste circular management.

The minister emphasizes the need for a shift in the current poorly regulated and indiscriminate use of plastics. The goal is to prepare the public for an inevitable change, including the banning of certain plastic products.

“In the interim, Nigerians are advised to take personal deliberate environmental actions to reduce and reuse plastics and also explore the growing market of recycling for their plastic waste,” Salako suggests.

Robust awareness campaigns and sensitization efforts will be rolled out in the coming days to prepare Nigerians for the forthcoming plastic bans and the holistic circular management of waste.
