The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, reversed its earlier order directing the Inspector-General of Police to arrest the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.

This order stemmed from allegations of disobedience to a court ruling, instructing EFCC operatives to vacate a property at Number 6, Aso Drive, Abuja.

Justice Abubakar Hussaini Musa upheld the submission of EFCC Counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Rotimi Oyedepo.

Oyedepo asserted that Olukoyede is “an officer of the law and a respecter of the rule of law,” emphasizing Olukoyede’s commitment to professionalism and accountable conduct within the EFCC.

Oyedepo further assured the court that Olukoyede, as the newly appointed Executive Chairman of the EFCC, would not knowingly disobey a court order.

The defence counsel, Adeyemi Pitan, did not object to Oyedepo’s submissions. Justice Musa acknowledged that the EFCC Chairman might not have been aware of the situation and proceeded to vacate the order, purging Olukoyede of the contempt proceedings.

The judge adjourned the matter until February 7, 2024, for the substantive suit, expressing the intention to resolve the issues between the parties involved in the ongoing legal proceedings.
