In the latest update from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), there’s a consistent rise in active voice and internet subscriptions. However, a notable drop in teledensity aligns with adjusted population figures.

In a statement signed by Reuben Mouka,  the director of Public Affairs NCC, it stated that September statistics reveal teledensity decreasing from 115.63% to 102.30%, and broadband penetration drops from 45.47% to 40.85%.

Despite this, active voice subscriptions marginally grow from 220,361,186 to 221,769,883, and internet subscriptions see a slight increase from 159,034,717 to 160,171,757.

October 2023 data shows a 0.19% growth in active voice subscriptions, maintaining a teledensity of 102.49%, while internet subscriptions increase by 0.60%.

In November, the industry experiences a 0.46% growth in active voice subscriptions, with teledensity at 102.97% and a 0.57% increase in internet subscriptions compared to October.

Teledensity, an ITU-prescribed index, is measured at one line per 100 individuals. The adjustment, based on the 2022 population projection, aligns with the NCA 2003’s mandate for the NCC to monitor and report on the telecom industry’s state.

Dr. Aminu Maida, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, emphasizes the adjustment’s importance for accurate data representation, aligning with the Strategic Plan for the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
