The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has issued a directive to the Federal Government, mandating them to establish price regulations for various goods and petroleum products within a strict timeframe of seven days.

This order came as a result of an originating motion filed by Senior Advocate Femi Falana, who challenged the Price Control Board’s apparent failure to enforce pricing guidelines effectively.

Falana’s motion raised concerns about the unchecked surge in prices, notably for essential commodities such as rice.

In his arguments before the court, he underscored the critical necessity for regulatory measures to address the rampant inflation affecting consumers nationwide.

After careful consideration of the evidence presented by Falana, the court ruled in his favor, granting his requests in full.

As a consequence, the Federal Government is now compelled to take swift action to establish and enforce pricing standards for a range of goods and petroleum products.

This decision marks a significant step towards safeguarding consumers’ interests and ensuring fair market practices, as it aims to mitigate the adverse impact of escalating prices on the populace.
