During a meeting with 36 state governors, President Bola Tinubu unequivocally stated his stance against establishing a price control board or permitting the importation of food into Nigeria.

Emphasizing the need for homegrown solutions, Tinubu addressed the pressing issue of food security amidst nationwide protests over soaring living costs and food inflation.

This declaration follows a recent Federal High Court directive mandating the government to regulate the prices of goods and petroleum products within seven days.

In response, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting self-sufficiency in food production.

The President’s remarks underscored the potential risks associated with importation, citing concerns about rent-seeking behavior and economic mismanagement.

Instead, he advocated for empowering farmers through targeted schemes and accelerating the implementation of livestock development plans to bolster domestic food production capacity.
