LET’S HAVE A ROTATIONAL POLICY FOR GOVERNORSHIP SEAT IN OYO STATE- Barr Akeem Agbaje

Frontline Governorship Aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress Party, come 2027, Barr. Akeem Agbaje has advocated for entrenchment of rotational policy in the Oyo State political system towards guaranteeing equal opportunity for all candidates from accross the geopolitical zones of the state to have true sense of belonging and inclusiveness. Though, according to him, he’s not “aware of any constitutional provision preventing any one from any zone of the state from aspiring to be Governor”.

This was his response to a question posed by his host on a popular radio interaction with Isaac Brown of Fresh FM in Ibadan over the weekend, adding that no zone, not even Ibadan with her taunted population, has ever won governorship elections on its own, it has always been in collaboration and cooperation with other zones.

In the same way he described the insinuation that Ibadan is dominating the governorship seat because of her huge population as historical fallacy, when he declared that Ibadan with her population as the then regional capital was also dominated by people from outside the city – notably from the present Osun state – was the Governor, the Deputy, SSG, Opposition leader from Ogbomoso, leaving Ibadan with only the Chief Judge, which was even based on seniority.

Until Ibadan consciously rose to claim her right to the coveted seat, not through sloganeering – “omo wa ni e je o se e”, but Ibadan worked assiduously and diligently with other zones to achieve her objective.

He therefore urged the current agitators from other zones of the state to learn from Ibadan, which was also once in their shoes, to be focused and persistent in their advocacy, negotiating and working with other zones towards realising their objective. He admonished them to be relentless, as it may take some time for their struggles to yield the desired results.
