In Oyo State, Commissioner of Police Hamzat Adebola has dismissed two special constabularies, Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, for soliciting money from a Dutch tourist on the Moniya-Iseyin road.
The incident, captured in a viral video, shows the officers asking the tourist, en route to Abuja, for money or valuables.
The Dutch rider, unfamiliar with Pidgin English, questioned their request. The response from the officers was a straightforward demand: “Give me money.” Perplexed, the Dutch rider responded with a simple “Why?” The less than two-minute video showcases the language barrier and the tourist’s confusion regarding the officers’ request.
Commissioner Hamzat Adebola pronounced their dismissal at the state’s Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Thursday.
The swift action was taken in response to the officers’ inappropriate conduct during duty.
The Commissioner’s decision underscores the commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism within the police force in Oyo State.
