AWO, SALAMI AGBAJE’S LEGACIES OF PROGRESSIVISM RESONATE WITH AKEEM AGBAJE’S VISION FOR OYO STATE.

In the ancient city of Ibadan, the name Agbaje resonates beyond family ties. It tells a story of vision, wealth, service, and political progress that has stretched across generations. Today, as Oyo State prepares for a new chapter of leadership, the Agbaje family name once again returns to the political conversation led by Barrister Akeem Agbaje, grandson of one of Ibadan’s greatest icons, Alhaji Salami Agbaje.

The Patriarch Who Defined an Era

Before the dawn of independence, when the colonial presence still shaped the economic and political scene, Alhaji Salami Agbaje emerged as a symbol of possibility for the Yoruba people.

Renowned as the first indigenous millionaire in Ibadan, Alhaji Agbaje was more than a businessman — he was a community builder. Through trade, real estate, and transport ventures, he rose to prominence, using his success to uplift others. His philanthropy extended to education, where he sponsored young Ibadan sons and daughters through school, believing that education was the foundation of true freedom.

But perhaps his most lasting impact was his political and ideological alignment. During the 1950s, as Chief Obafemi Awolowo began his push for a modern, self-reliant Western Region, Salami Agbaje stood as one of his early supporters and financiers. He was among those who believed in Awolowo’s progressive ideals free education, industrialization, and welfare-driven governance.

Through both his influence and resources, Alhaji Agbaje became one of the true founding pillars of the progressive movement in Ibadan, ensuring that his city remained a stronghold of Awolowo’s political base.

A Family Built on Progress and Service
The Agbaje family name became synonymous with education, community, and progressive politics. From generation to generation, those values were carefully preserved and passed down.

It is from this rich heritage that Barrister Akeem Agbaje draws his inspiration. A seasoned lawyer, civic leader, and democrat, Akeem Agbaje embodies the continuity of that progressive spirit and a modern reflection of his grandfather’s ideals adapted to today’s realities.

In his public service and political engagements, Barrister Agbaje has consistently emphasized the need for justice, equity, and people-centered governance. His vision for Oyo State reflects the principles that shaped the Western Region under Awolowo sound education, economic empowerment, and social inclusion.

To many observers, Akeem represents a bridge between generations: a man who carries the wisdom and humility of the old progressives and the innovation and energy of a new era.

Barrister Akeem Agbaje’s passion for reform is evident in his grassroots engagement and commitment to development. He believes that leadership must focus on building people, not empires, a message that has found resonance among the youth and working-class population of Oyo State.

As Oyo prepares for another decisive election season, Akeem Agbaje’s candidacy rekindles a familiar narrative that of hope, service, and progress, the same story that began decades ago with his grandfather’s alliance with Awo’s movement.

The Agbaje legacy, it seems, continues not as nostalgia, but as a living reminder that progressive politics remains Oyo State’s most enduring tradition.
