The newly confirmed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has outlined his vision for the agency during his screening by the Senate. Emphasizing the need for the EFCC to redirect its focus as an anti-corruption agency, Olukoyede proposed a three-pronged approach.

First, he highlighted the importance of driving economic development, stating that the agency should align its focus with section 6 of the EFCC Act.

Secondly, Olukoyede stressed the creation of an atmosphere for transparency and accountability in government operations.

Thirdly, he underscored the role of the EFCC in building the international image of the country to attract foreign direct investment.

During his address, Olukoyede called for collective responsibility among Nigerians to recognize corruption as a hindrance to the country’s development and emphasized that the fight against corruption should not be left solely to the anti-corruption agency.

Following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu, Olukoyede underwent Senate screening and was confirmed, alongside Muhammad Hammajo as the Secretary of the Commission.

Olukoyede acknowledged the herculean task ahead and presented a three-thronged approach as his policy objectives, with a focus on redirecting the EFCC’s role for greater effectiveness in tackling corruption.
