Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed that the automation of the passport application process will commence on January 8, 2024. This development allows Nigerians to apply and complete their passport applications online, eliminating the need for human contact.

During an inspection of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) facilities in Abuja, Tunji-Ojo stated, “We are good to go live.” He emphasized that the training has commenced, and from January 8, the solution will be accessible for Nigerians, promising a seamless experience aligned with the Renewed Hope vision of the President.

The minister highlighted the significant reduction in human contact in the passport acquisition process.

This initiative is expected to not only enhance the security architecture of the country but also provide greater comfort and convenience for Nigerians.

Tunji-Ojo stressed the government’s commitment to ending the era of fake documents for passport applications.

Additionally, he announced the deployment of document verification officers across all local government areas in the country, tasked with scrutinizing passport applications thoroughly.

This strategic move aims to further ensure the authenticity and reliability of the passport issuance process.
