Lagos Government Calls for Arrest of Candidates in Army Recruitment Scandal
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Lagos State Government is urging the arrest and trial of six northern candidates participating in the Nigerian Army recruitment process. These candidates, revealed in a viral video, falsely claimed Lagos indigeneity to secure recruitment slots designated for the state’s natives.

The video stirred reactions from Lagos indigenes, expressing concern about potential manipulation in the recruitment process.

Responding to an inquiry, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, emphasized that claiming false indigeneity is a criminal act. While the matter hasn’t been officially reported, Omotoso urged the police to arrest and try the individuals if found guilty, as perjury is punishable under the law.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army acknowledged the arrest of the six candidates and issued a statement affirming its commitment to transparent and credible recruitment.

The video, according to the Army, demonstrates the ongoing efforts to ensure that recruitment slots allocated to specific states are rightfully filled by true indigenes.

An investigation will be conducted to identify those involved in fraudulent activities.

The Army assures the public that it remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process.

It emphasizes the need for honesty and integrity among candidates and warns against attempts to manipulate the process, promising legal consequences if caught.

Former Minister Maj.-Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju calls on the Lagos State Governor and the Chief of Army Staff to investigate what he describes as a violation of the constitutional rights of Lagos indigenes.

Olanrewaju proposes measures, including the establishment of a “Verification System Unit” staffed by indigenous personnel, to ensure a more secure and transparent recruitment process.

In summary, the Lagos Government demands accountability in the face of fraudulent claims during the Army recruitment, emphasizing the need for a fair and just process.

The Nigerian Army assures the public of its commitment to investigating and addressing any misconduct, reinforcing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the recruitment system.
