Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed plans for a state-owned airline and a new airport in Lekki during the Lagos West Senatorial District People’s Town Hall Meeting. The airline project, in its final stages, features a viable business plan, and the state is determining the financing model.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the idea has been under consideration for several months, with the Deputy Governor collaborating on a concise plan. The governor emphasized the need for adequate knowledge about airline operations before implementation.
Responding to inquiries about Lagos lacking a commercial airline, Sanwo-Olu assured that significant progress has been made in the last five months.
He highlighted the advanced stage of the conversation, citing the need for precise information on operations before moving forward with the plan.
The governor also announced the upcoming construction of the 37km Fourth Mainland Bridge, set to commence by the end of March or April.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the extensive work done on the bridge and the need for creative financing. He outlined the phased construction, starting from Abraham Adesanya junction to the waterfront at Badore.
Despite potential disruptions, the governor assured compensation for affected properties and businesses. Both tenants and landlords of the buildings in the project’s path will receive due compensation.
