Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has voiced his concerns over the challenges Nigerians face under the current administration. In an open letter titled “President Bola Tinubu, Time is Going,” Adams urged President Tinubu to reconsider some of his controversial policies, emphasizing that “time is ticking.”
Addressing President Tinubu directly, Adams wrote, “Your Excellency, I bring you good tidings from the more than 65 million Yoruba of South-West Nigeria, including Edo, Delta, Kwara, and Kogi States. I also write as one of over 200 million Nigerians, blessed with immense natural and human resources.”Adams criticized past leaders for mismanaging Nigeria’s resources since 1960, noting that many Nigerians had hoped Tinubu, with his experience and democratic ideals, would outperform his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
He lamented that those expectations have not been met, citing the drastic increase in fuel prices since Tinubu took office.Drawing a comparison with the ruin of Germany post-World War II and its subsequent recovery, Adams warned of parallels in Nigeria’s current state. He concluded by urging the President to reflect on the effectiveness of his reforms, stating, “Mr. President, the time is ticking. I come in peace.”
