Board members of Novelty Polytechnic in Kishi, Oyo State, have demanded the closure of four illegal campuses operating under the institution’s name across the country.
Dr. Dele Fanimo, a board member, conveyed this request during a press conference held in Abuja on Friday.
In his address to the press on behalf of the board members and the proprietor’s wife, Ashat Salami, Dr. Fanimo disclosed that the institution had written to relevant authorities concerning the operations of these illegal campuses.
Legal action has also been taken against the operator of these campuses, who allegedly established them without proper authorization.
According to Dr. Fanimo, a staff member assumed the role of a managing director, established satellite campuses, and collected revenue into his private account.
The four illegal campuses are situated in Ibadan, Lagos, Minna, and Abuja, operating under the name of Novelty Polytechnic, deceiving people and defrauding them of their hard-earned money.
Dr. Fanimo highlighted that the institution had responded to queries from the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), affirming their commitment to maintaining the standards set by NBTE for technical education.
He emphasized that Novelty Polytechnic aims to revive technical education in Nigeria and would not compromise on established standards.
The response to the NBTE from Dr. Fanimo disputed the legitimacy of the satellite campuses, citing forged letters and signatures used without authorization.
The letter emphasized that Novelty Polytechnic had reported the unauthorized campuses to the NBTE and sought support to shut them down.
Dr. Fanimo urged the State Security Services to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The NBTE spokesperson, when contacted, indicated a need to provide additional information later.
